Chambered Balsa Guns for 2011 season

These ain't your ordinary surfboards...When Rob Rudine started buzzing about the project we had no idea how gnarly it was going to get. He's just as meticulous with wood as Stretch is with surfboards. This wood was hand selected by Rob and cut with a small crew of lumbermen with his direction and help in the rough milling with a bandmill on site. Then it was air dried for 9 months, BEFORE kiln drying (this preserves the color and grain). Rob then surfaced joined and planed it there, then air freighted back to Houston to clear customs, then trucked to Farmington, NM. He picked it up with a trailer, then milled it to Stretch's rocker templates for a spot glued blank. Rob then packed up and drove from his home in Durango, CO with tools in tow and 20 hours and over 1000 miles later he arrived in Santa Cruz to work on getting them done personally with Stretch for the 2011 season on the north shore.
Big wave surfing, as in life, demands focus, determination, ability and commitment. What Rob and Stretch have demonstrated over the last month fully embodies this spirit. There is nothing short of devotion and true passion to craftsmanship with these 2 chambered balsa guns in the works. Countless hours and efforts have gone into making these boards a reality. From start to finish, these two masterpieces are definitely going to turn some heads.
